Biography: Architect Bashirul Haq

'''Bashirul Haq''' (born 24 June 1942, Bhatshala, Brahmanbaria , Bangladesh) is a Bangladeshi architect , planner and educator. He is undoubtedly one of the most critically acclaimed contemporary architect of South Asia, known for his ideological environment- responsive architectural style. Bashirul Haq was born to a respectable family in Brahmanbaria. His father was the Deputy Collector of Sylhet district. For the reason, Haq spent a large span of childhood there. He completed his Bachelor of Architecture from National College of Arts , Lahore, Pakistan in 1964. He received ''′John Heimrich Tuition, Scholarship′'' and Teaching Assistantship at University of New Mexico , US in 1971 and completed his Master of Architecture from the university in 1975. Fazlur Rahman Khan, partner of SOM requested Haq to join there. But he returned to Bangladesh and established Bashirul Haq and Associates in 1977 and started practising architecture. In 1989, he visited Massachusetts Institute of Technology + as an invited design critic. In his 45 years of professional career Haq has designed more than 300 buildings. He admits that, at his young age, the works of Alvar Aalto + inspired him most. Haq's architectural style is celebrated for holding cultural roots, respecting local context, urban sustainability and the use of natural light and air. His designed buildings are characterised by extensive use of tactile materials such as hand made brick, rough concrete and natural woods.

Biography: Architect Muzharul Islam

Muzharul Islam (Bengali: মাজহারুল ইসলাম ; 25 December 1923 – 15 July 2012) was a Bangladeshi architect, urban planner, educator and activist. He is considered as the Grand Master of regional modernism in South Asia. Islam is the pioneer of modern architecture in Bangladesh and the father of Bengali modernism. Islam's style and influence dominated the architectural scene in the country during the 1960s and 70s, along with major US architects he brought to work in Dhaka. As a teacher, architect, social and political activist, Islam set the course of architectural practice in the country not only through his own many varied works but also through being instrumental in inviting architects like Louis Kahn, Richard Neutra, Stanley Tigerman, Paul Rudolph, Robert Boughey and Konstantinos Doxiadis to work in Bangladesh.
